YOUTH

The Japanese word “Taijutsu” translates into English as “unarmed combat” or “skill with the body”.  Taijutsu is an effective mixed martial arts system that draws from a number of other practices and combines them in an applicable, MMA-style format. This class is designed for children between 5 and 15 years old.

Typical Taijutsu youth classes  are designed with a few goals in mind. First, we want to instill a sense of confidence as well as respect for ourselves and others. Our students grow in coordination, flexibility, and agility. Foundational martial arts skills, including strikes, kicks, sweeps and takedowns, and grappling, are the cornerstone of  the program, which maintains effective self-defense strategies.

At Dojo Omaha, we  are passionate about being a positive force in our youth student’s lives.   We love that martial arts classes focus on individual growth  (rather than team competition) and provide a safe way for kids to  harness their physical energy!

What To Expect

Here’s what to expect from your child’s first Taijutsu class.

Warm Up

Solo body movement including stretching and cardio movement. This could include skipping, rolling, cartwheels, duckwalks, splits, high kicks, or other body movements.

Technique

Instructor-lead striking, kicking, and sparring in the mirror, with pads/bags, or with a partner. We do our best to match children with partners within their skill level, size, and age range.

Free-sparring + activity

Students use skills learned in class and work on live “sparring” with a partner of similar experience level. Class is typically ended with some kind of fun activity that utilizes coordination.
